Fire risk assessments
Getting a copy of your building’s fire risk assessment
To get a copy of your building’s fire risk assessment (FRA), you should contact the responsible person and ask them to send you a copy.
If you're in England, you can use our template letter to ask for a copy.
Some organisations, local authorities and housing associations publish fire risk assessments online.
If they do not give you a copy
The law requires that the responsible person:
- provide residents with a copy of their building’s FRA
- tell you about any risks identified by the FRA
The local fire and rescue authority has the power to enforce this requirement.
Complain to your managing agent
If you have a managing agent and they fail to give you a copy of the FRA, you could make an official complaint.
- Complain to the individual agent directly.
- If that does not work, you should make a formal complaint through the internal complaints procedure at the agent’s company.
- If you are still unhappy, you can then complain to a redress scheme. All managing agents in England must be a member of a redress scheme.
