Fire safety for resident directors
Information for residents
It’s important that all residents understand the fire safety arrangements for the building, and what to do if there’s a fire.
You must provide certain information to residents under the Building Safety Act 2022 and the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, including:
- any risks identified in the fire risk assessment
- the fire safety measures for the building
- information on who is responsible for fire safety in the building
- instructions about what to do in a fire and how to evacuate the building
- information about fire doors, including flat entrance doors
You must display clear fire safety instructions somewhere where they’re easily seen in the building. You must also give them to residents every 12 months, and to new residents when they move into the building.

Rules for buildings 18 metres or higher (or at least 7 storeys) in England
If the building is at least 18 metres or 7 storeys in England, you must prepare a resident engagement strategy, showing how residents and flat owners will be involved and informed about building safety decisions.
