An overview of costs you might pay
To extend your lease you'll have to pay:
- the premium, or price, for the new lease (based on the valuation rules set out in the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993)
- your professional fees – your own solicitor and valuer’s reasonable fees
- the landlord’s reasonable legal and valuation costs (however this would not include their costs of tribunal proceedings if it were to go to tribunal)
- tribunal and court fees if applicable

Speak to a specialist solicitor and a valuation surveyor before serving the Section 42 notice. You can find a solicitor on the Law Society website and find a valuation surveyor on the RICS website.
