Buying the freehold of a leasehold house
Qualifying criteria
To qualify for the right to buy the freehold there are a few main conditions or requirements:
- you must be the leaseholder
- the house must “reasonably be considered" a house - so adapted for living in and detached from or vertically divided from any adjoining house(s) by a wall
- your lease must have originally been granted for more than 21 years or have a right to renew
- your lease must not have been created by subletting from a landlord who has a short lease
