Does my front door need to comply with current building regulations?

The front door to your flat should have complied with building fire safety regulations when it was installed.

If you are installing a new one, or altering the present one, it should comply with current building regulations as regards fire safety. However, there is no requirement to replace a fire door simply because it does not meet the current standard under Building Regulations, if the door remains in full working order from a fire safety point of view.

A competent fire safety risk assessor will, usually, assess whether a front door is fit for purpose during the fire safety risk assessment.

Ratings and certifications

All new fire doors should be FD30s rated, providing fire and smoke resistance for at least 30 minutes.

Your door supplier or contractor should give you a test certificate confirming that the fire door and any included ironmongery or letter boxes comply with any of these fire safety standards:
