In 2023, the government asked housebuilders and major developers to sign the developer remediation contract, committing them to:
- Take responsibility for all necessary work to address life-critical fire safety defects arising from the design and construction of buildings 11 metres and over in height that they developed or refurbished over the last 30 years in England.
- Keep residents and leaseholders in those buildings informed about progress towards meeting this commitment.
- Reimburse taxpayers for funding spent on remediating those buildings through government funds such as the Building Safety Fund.
As of 14 October 2024, over 50 developers have signed the contract. The government publishes the list of developers who have signed the contract.
