Reduction in service charge bill

In October 2018, LEASE was contacted by a client living in south London. The client was a leaseholder (with a shared ownership lease) of a flat in a development of 3 buildings, each with 14 flats.

The client had received a large service charge bill, equivalent to almost £500 per household. The bill was large due to the freeholder’s underestimation of charges for the year. Following LEASE’s advice, the client challenged the composition of the bill, requesting invoices/receipts and greater transparency of what exactly was being charged.

The freeholder subsequently replied, attaching copies of invoices making up the revised total charge, which was significantly lower than the original sum presented. In total, the revised charges were approximately £3,300 lower than those originally presented.

The client was pleased that LEASE’s advice had resulted in such an outcome.
