Government launches consultation on regulatory reform in the construction industry

9 January 2026

The government has launched a public consultation on proposals for regulatory reform in the construction industry and the development of a single construction regulator.

The Grenfell Tower Inquiry’s Phase 2 report recommended that the government create a single regulator to bring together functions relating to the construction industry.

The proposed changes aim to reduce fragmentation in the way the sector is regulated and to support culture change across the industry.

Responses to the consultation will be used to inform creation of the new regulator and wider regulatory reform.

The consultation will run until 20 March 2026, and views can be sent online or via email to regulatoryreform@communities.gov.uk.

LEASE is governed by a board, appointed as individuals by the Secretary of State for the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.
