Decisions of the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) and of the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal

Most disputes that leaseholders and their landlord or management company cannot resolve between themselves can be taken to the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) (“the Tribunal”).

The Tribunal can adjudicate on such matters as

  • insuring the building
  • how much you have to pay in service charges
  • the quality of services provided
  • how much you have to pay to extend your lease
  • how much you have to pay to buy the freehold of your building
  • contested Right to Manage claims
  • whether a covenant or condition in a lease has been broken
  • charges payable under an estate management scheme

Until 1 July 2013 decisions on the above matters were made by the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal (“LVT”) and the LVT continues to exist in Wales. For decisions from the Wales LVT see Residential Property Tribunal Wales.

We have set out the Tribunal/LVT decisions and determinations in six schedules. The schedules are produced by LEASE as a service to our users and do not form any part of the relevant Tribunal/LVT determinations; neither do they represent the views of the Tribunal/LVT panels other than where quoted.

Please note that you can search for keywords within the decisions themselves by using the search box to the right of this page.

The decisions contained within this area of the site are computer generated from the paper based originals, and are of variable size and quality. The decisions and decision tables may take some time to load.
