Government considers including leasehold abuse in BIS Green Paper on protecting consumers

Replying to a question from Sir Peter Bottomley MP during yesterday’s Budget Resolution – Amendment of the Law debate, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government stated that the Government is considering whether leasehold abuses could be included in BIS’s forthcoming Green Paper on protecting the interests of consumers.

During his Budget speech on Wednesday, the Chancellor announced the government’s intention to publish the Green Paper; and, ahead of the Green Paper, to take the first steps to protect consumers from unexpected fees or unfair clauses, to simplify terms and conditions, and to give consumer bodies greater enforcement powers.

LEASE is governed by a board, appointed as individuals by the Secretary of State for the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities.
