What if I cannot afford a service charge for work that the landlord wants to undertake?
Service charge payments are likely to be a requirement of your lease. Failure to pay the service charge could be a breach of the lease resulting in legal action being taken against you. If you cannot afford to pay the service charge you should approach your landlord to try and negotiate a suitable payment plan. It may also be a good idea to seek specialist advice regarding your financial situation.
