User FAQs
I have negotiated with my landlord to extend my lease to 999 years. Are there any problems associated with extending just one lease in this way. (There are 3 flats in the building and the landlord resides in one.)?
You have an individual right to extend your lease. You do not have to act collectively with other leaseholders and there is no need for all the leases to be extended at the same time. If you have agreed to vary covenants in the lease (e.g. to allow you to keep pets or sublet the flat) as part of the extension the new lease may differ from the other leases in the building. This may make it difficult to manage the building and could lead to disputes between leaseholders and the landlord.
